Drawing in the landscape is an essential part of my practice

Working in pastels gives an instant, ready mixed colour palette, so my focus outside is given over to the landscape

Summer Grasses

A series of large drawings in soft pastel and coloured pencil on fine art paper. These drawings were made back in the studio after sketching en plein air in the wild grasses that hug the dunes at the Barmouth Beach, near Castlerock.

Shoreline grasses

it’s rare to sketch outside without having wind and rain in the mix, but this was one of those summer days where there was a sense of stillness on the water. pastel en plein air drawing, Barmouth beach, castlerock
